Irie wins 200m backstroke at Mare Nostrum

Athens champion Tani to compete in national invitational meet

TOKYO, Japan - The All Japan Judo Federation said on Jan. 17 that Athens Olympic 48-kilogram women's gold medalist Ryoko Tani (in file photo) will take part in the national invitational weight-class championships in April. Okabe captures SBC Cup ski jumping national c'ship crown+

HAKUBA, Japan - Nagano Olympic gold medalist Takanobu Okabe came from behind to clinch his second straight national title by winning the SBC Cup ski jumping meet at Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture on Feb. 16. Despite poor visibility due to heavy snow, Okabe produced the best results of the day in moving into second after a jump of 116.5 meters and sewing up his third national title with a second effort of just 112 meters at the K-120 large hill.

EPA economic assessment unchanged in January
